CRAFT supplier Crafter’s Companion has strengthened its art division after the appointment of an experienced new business development manager.
Simon Hodges has joined the company’s senior management team and will be responsible for growing the Spectrum Noir Brand, which is owned by Crafter’s Companion.
A former director at Letraset, Simon has vast experience of the global arts and design industry and has been tasked with helping the company develop and grow Spectrum Noir craft Pens and markers in new markets and territories.
Spectrum Noir is a colouring system that aims to combine affordability with versatility across a vast colour spectrum, which was designed specifically for the crafting market.
Sara Davies, founder of Crafter’s Companion, said: “We approached Simon to join our team as part of a concerted effort to grow the Spectrum Noir brand both domestically and internationally as it offers great value to consumers over other alternative products. “We have experienced significant retail growth over the last year after recruiting a trade team and this appointment builds on that by bringing in specific expertise on a particular segment of the market. “There is more and more crossover between design and crafting so it’s a logical step for our business. We have high hopes for Simon and are delighted to have him join our team,” added Sara.
During 13 years at Letraset, Simon worked as a product manager developing the ProMarker brand, helping reposition the company outside of its traditional roots in the professional design world. After then working as the company’s marketing manager, he progressed to board level in the role of marketing director where Simon developed the commercial side of the business, seeing brand initiatives through and developing key accounts in the UK and overseas. New recruit Simon said: “Crafters Companion is a great brand with a really interesting and innovative range of products. The company has a superb reputation and a fantastic team, which I am very much looking forward to being part of.”
Crafter’s Companion is run by multi award-winning entrepreneur Sara Davies, who since starting the company in 2005, has become a familiar face in the global craft sector. Alongside its own brand products like Spectrum Noir and Embosalicious, it also manufacturers many crafting tools such as ‘The Ultimate’.
Along with sales through retail channels, Crafter’s Companion’s products are sold online via its website and through TV shopping channels across the world. It now employs over 60 people across its County Durham headquarters and its US operation in California.
