On June 18th & 19th CHA-UK held our first ever major education event The One Big Show.
Our aim was simple, to educate, inspire and connect the amazing people of our industry. We were thrilled to have attendees from both big and small manufacturers, key buyers, wholesalers, independent retailers, retailer chains, TV shopping , publishing and professional designers, some of whom had travelled from the USA, South Africa and across Europe to feel the buzz of the UK’s creative market.
It all kicked off with a networking event on 18th evening, where the sponsored bar and buffet was much appreciated by our members. The small talk was one of curiosity as members wondered how good the following day of education would be, after all nothing like this has ever been offered to our UK craft industry before. It didn’t take long for our members to relax and make some great connections with people at all levels of profession and so it was that at around 11pm most people retired to their rooms happy and optimistic about the next day.
Registration opened early on 19th for those who were just coming for the day and a busy hour of booking last minute seminar seats got under way, whilst those who arrived the day before enjoyed the superb coffee and snacks that were in the break out hallway, whilst networking and chatting about the seminars ahead. By lunchtime everyone in the buffet queue was discussing what had been their favourite seminar and there was a huge sense of optimism about the event and what they were taking away from it (and we don’t mean the huge goodie bag they all got!)
Trying to ensure the program had something for all segments of the industry was a priority for the CHA-UK board and even though this was our first event we wanted the standard of the seminars to be high. We had some awesome feedback on those we ran this year and some great suggestions for seminar topics next year.
The One Big Show was a Big idea for a Big diverse industry and the Big success was the Oneness we all felt afterwards. Quite often networking is hard if you’re a small business who has come on their own, but the venue was perfect with a large breakout hallway that all seminars joined, so after every seminar we were all back together again for a short break. The seminars gave the perfect opportunity for an opening line to conversation “which one have you just been to?” This is the question we hope you will be asking someone you have just met next year at the next One Big Show or maybe we will see you at one of our regional events which we will be posting details of soon.
Here are some of the comments we received from our members who attended The One Big Show
“I was really impressed the seminars I went to, the Future Vision of Retailing was my favourite, he was a brilliant speaker and I have already followed up on a few things as a result of the seminar” – Sue – Katy Sue Designs Ltd
Well, what can I say …. We have had an amazing time in Coventry – a big thank you to you and everyone on the Board for making it such fun and informative. I can’t imagine the time and energy you have put into making it so good but again, thank you.- Rosie – Rocrafts
