CRAFTER’S Companion founder, Sara Davies, attended her investiture at Buckingham Palace this week after being appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Her Majesty’s Birthday 2016 Honours List.
Following the announcement in the summer that she would receive an MBE as a result of her contribution to the economy, the craft entrepreneur attended the honours ceremony in London earlier this week and was presented her award by His Royal Highness (HRH), Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.
The honours system recognises people who have made achievements in public life and have committed themselves to serving and helping Britain. Honours are decided by a committee and then approved by the Prime Minister and the Queen.
Heavily-pregnant Sara, who is due to give birth this month, was accompanied to Buckingham Palace by her proud parents, sister, husband and son. The accolade is rare in the craft sector and Sara’s achievements will no doubt help to raise the profile of craft and deliver a boost to the industry.
The 32-year-old from County Durham said: “Receiving my MBE was a genuinely humbling experience. It’s strange to think this all started with an idea for one product. I could never have imagined that Crafter’s Companion would grow into what it is today.
“Hopefully this will help to inspire other craft entrepreneurs and professionals in our sector, showing them that they can build a successful business in the industry they love and make a contribution to a wider community.
“This year has been absolutely incredible for me and for the company, this is the icing on the cake and honestly, totally unexpected. I’m honoured to have received recognition of this level and it’s as much about my incredible team as it is about me.”
Sara’s craft supplies company is now a market-leading business in the sector and a key partner to thousands of craft retailers across the UK and beyond.
